CARS (Christian Automotive Redistribution Service)
Southland takes donated cars, trucks, vans, boats, campers and motorcycles and gives them to people in need, usually within the Southland family.
Where do these cars come from?
Donations. The CARS Ministry accepts almost any donation. If the vehicle is deemed beyond repair, it is sold for parts and the money goes back into the program to fund the purchase and maintenance of tools, parts and equipment for cars that will be repaired and given away.
There are clear spiritual and relational benefits of donating a vehicle and helping meet a real need of an individual or family. But there also are financial benefits. Currently, if you as the donor itemize your deductions, you can deduct the "fair market value" of the vehicle. IRS Publication 526, Charitable Contributions, and Publication 561 Determining the Value of Donated Property, provides more detailed information about your donation. Southland Christian Church does not place a value on the donated vehicles. The vehicle's fair market value must be determined by you, the donor. If the value is $5,000.00 or more, a qualified vehicle appraisal is required by the IRS.
